Design stimulates the development of an enquiring, analytical and creative approach, and progresses enterprising and entrepreneurial capabilities. It encourages the acquisition of independent judgement and critical self awareness. Students normally pursue a programme of staged development progressing to increasingly independent and personally focused learning during the course.

About this course
The course aims to enable understudies to: 1. have a basic understanding of design elements; 2. be capable of presenting a 3D graphical image on a 2D surface; 3. be capable of presenting an orthographic drawing using appropriate software; 4. be capable of presenting a 3D model using relevant software; 5. have a basic understanding in the manufacture of a simple model using CAM (computer aided manufacture); 6. have a basic knowledge of relevant materials; 7. have demonstrated the use of the above concepts in a real design context.
Our wide range of modules will allow you to learn new topics, improve on current knowledge to allow you to develop into a skilled product designer. We have a well stocked workshop including an assortment of equipment comprising of traditional lathes, saws and drills to more modern gear such as a 3D printer, plasma cutter and laser cutter. All equipment and the vast majority of materials are free to use and are provided on a first come first served basis.
220 200 GCE/VCE points in relevant subjects
BTEC National Diploma with both Distinction and Merit credits in relevant subjects
Application as a mature student with relevant qualifications/experience on individual merit
