You will be assessed via practical observations and through the completion of a portfolio. You will also have end of year exams for the food safety and functional skills componant of this qualification
What is the entry process?Through a formal inteview, a practical kitchen assessment plus through sucessful references and the achievemnet of entry grades where applicable
What are the entry requirements?Minimum qualifications: Entry Level
There are no minimum entry requirements for the course; however, we would hope that the successful candidate would have an interest to seek a professional career in the catering and hospitality industry and have a passion for cooking - good food and good service. They will also need a basic qualification in English and math's due to the assignments linked to this course
What else do I need to know?Stratford-upon-Avon College is the first college in the country to achieve the Training Quality Standard with excellence in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism, in recognition of its outstanding work with employers. This course is offered at Stratford-upon-Avon College and is also offered by the college at the Rugby campus; within Warwickshire College.
This course has been designed for students who have an interest in catering and hospitality and would like a professional qualification in this area. Support on this course will be given to enable development of English and Mathematics to ensure further progression either onto the full-time Level 2 programme or an Apprenticeship. The course includes careers guidance and personal tutorials. You are encouraged to gain extra first-hand knowledge of your craft by taking a part-time job outside college hours. No formal entry requirements are required; however we would be looking for commitment to a career in the Catering industry and a satisfactory behavior reportEnglish and Maths
English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.
Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.
Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.
Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.
What can I do after this course?After completion of this course, candidates can go onto study at Level 2 either as a full time or part time student. Alternatively, candidates may wish to embark on a successful career in the catering and hospitality industry.
