This course is for working chefs and people with an NVQ 2, who wish to improve their skills and knowledge for professional development.
What are the entry requirements?
You will normally need an NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation & Cooking, although in exceptional circumstances it is possible that quality experience will suffice. If you are at all unsure as to your suitability please contact the course manager who will be pleased to discuss the course and its content with you. Interviews are held at a time suitable to interested individuals.
What will I be doing on the course?
Students having chosen this specialist area will cover ALL aspects of Patisserie work to a complex level. Your training will be supervised by a team of dedicated, professional staff who have a vast knowledge and indeed personal experience of working in the catering industry.
How do I study the course?
This is a traditional day release course offered on a Thursday from 9.00am - 4.30pm and using the Hotel & Catering Studies pastry kitchen. If you are under 19 courses are usually FREE, however, there are some exceptions ie: Professional Accredited Courses (AAT,etc), Microsoft Academy and various short courses. Over 19s will be expected to pay a course fee, however, many people qualify for fee reductions, particularly those in receipt of benefits such as Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit or Income Support. What can I do after this course?
With your new improved skills you should be a highly valuable addition to any employer. You could now also go on to study a higher level course, such as the NVQ 4 in Advanced Craft Skills, Kitchen Management or study for the HCIMA Professional Certificate. After successfully completing the NVQ 3 Professional Food Prepartion - Confectionary/Patisserie and with sufficient industry experience you could also apply for a Foundation Degree in related subject area, for further information on the Foundation Degrees available at Cornwall College please call Customer Services on 01209 616161. Demand for well qualified, experienced students has never been higher and salaries have also risen considerably in recent years.
Information regarding fees/costs
The centre operates a strict dress code which is integral to NVQ kitchen competence at all levels. Some purchase of equipment may be necessary to meet the code. There is a charge for materials of 72.00
Concessions
No tuition fees charged for students under the age of 19 on the 31st August Students over the age of 19, approximately £144.00 provided that you bring in proof of an acceptable qualifying benefit on the day of enrolment
