PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (PGCE) (FULL TIME)

Our one year pre-service programme is run in partnership with the University of East London (UEL). Over the year, you will explore the theoretical, sociological and practical aspects of becoming a good teacher. Whatever your specialist area of study, you could pass on your knowledge and expertise to other people. You will learn as you teach through a supported teaching placement which is underpinned by the taught elements of the course.

Your studies will include the following topics:

• the psychological background to planning teaching and learning;
• managing student behaviour;
• supporting students with specific needs;
• educational policies and procedures;
• how to manage the learning environment;
• developing resources and approaches to teaching and learning.

You will be assessed via module assignments and observations of professional teaching practice.

There are six modules of study:

• Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector: classroom practice and craft;
• Learner Support;
• Assessment and feedback;
• Learning from policies - context and practice;
• Active Research Inquiry;
• Portfolio of professional development and practice.
