Course programme

Pre-Requisites
To enrol on this programme, you don’t need any previous experience of plumbing. The most important requirement is a desire to learn.

Learning Method
The course is provided as a blended learning programme which includes home study and practical workshop modules. Each module ends with an assessment to ensure you achieve the desired competency that will determine your progress through the course.

Practical Workshops
You will be attending a series of 5 day practical sessions at our training centre to complete the practical work modules that make up your programme.

These practical modules will give you the underpinning knowledge and experience required to become a plumber. These elements will form the basis of your skills that will give you the confidence to work as a plumber. At any stage during the course you will have the opportunity to discuss your progress with one of our expert tutors, who will be guiding you through your training.



You can build a portfolio of work which can be used as proof of your accomplishments. You will need to provide your own overalls and steel toe-capped working shoes, although these can be provided at cost price.
All necessary tools will be provided for the duration of your training.

Four Qualifications
Students who successfully complete the training will achieve the Open College Network Units of Credit Certificates for the practical stage of training which includes copper pipe work, bathroom installation with cold water storage cistern and hot water cylinder plus installing radiators'.

During the remainder of the course you will achieve the Bpec Water Regulations and Unvented Hot Water certificates. In the final week you will be able to achieve the City & Guilds 6128 Technical Certificate and
be given the added opportunity to undertake the CSCS Card. You will then be qualified and ready to become
a Professional Plumber.



Tutor Support
Our tutors are available to provide you with all the necessary support to complete your training programme. If this support is required whilst you are not actually attending a practical workshop, you can contact a tutor by telephone. This service is available between 8am and 4pm from Monday to Friday.

Programme Details
The programme consists of theory work which can be completed at your home or wherever you find convenient, plus practical workshop days.

The theory modules have been developed to provide a good understanding of the subject matter in preparation for the practical days. The practical days are designed to instil in you the basic skills to work with copper pipes and plumbers' tools and fittings.

Modules Include:

  • Servicing and maintenance of hot water supplies.


  • Working safely and effectively with water supplies.


  • Working with copper pipe work and plastic push-fit components.


  • Maintaining and troubleshooting domestic plumbing.


  • Installation and maintenance of bathrooms and sanitary equipment.


  • Health, safety and environmental considerations when plumbing.


  • Installation of airing cupboards.


  • Installation and maintenance of heating systems.


  • Working effectively and safely with unvented hot water systems
