It assumes no previous knowledge of C, but a working knowledge of programming in a higher level language such as Fortran or Pascal or (Visual) Basic will be an advantage. The course has twin aims, namely, to teach programming constructs in C and to encourage the use of software tools that enhance the software development process.

Course programme

Course structure This 5-day course is taught by a mix of lectures and computer practicals. All delegates receive: a course folder containing all material presented in the course; model solutions to computer practicals; 60 days access to online material used in the practicals.
What you will learn

On successful completion of the module the student will be able to:

  • Develop comprehensive programs in C to solve practical problems
  • Assess the performance of a C program
  • Develop simple testing strategies, and produce documentation
  • Make use of external libraries for scientific tasks.
