If you want to work in programming or create internet-based open source projects, or already work in these areas and want to further improve your skills, this short part-time course - a module from the HNC/D in computing and systems development syllabus – will provide you with an with an understanding of the principles of programming in Java and give you the opportunity to explore the object oriented nature of the language and the multi-platform versatility offered. We have excellent feedback from our past students, many of who have gone on to university to study full degrees in computing and IT-related subjects, whilst others have become graphic designers, web designers, programmers, computer technicians and IT teachers.

About this course

As this module is part of an HNC/D qualification, you are required to be over 18 years of age and have the following qualifications: Two A Levels - preferably in Computing or IT OR BTec certificate or diploma in IT - Mature students will be considered in light of relevant work/life experience - Non-EU students are required to have an IELTS or equivalent university qualification

Completion of the course will enable you to: Understand the principles of programming in Java Design Java solutions Implement Java solutions Test and document Java solutions What skills will I gain? By studying this module you will: Develop an understanding of the Java programming language Develop code suited to a range of platforms such as mobile applications, bespoke applications or web-based solutions How will I be assessed? This is an assignment-based course and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the course via assignments and the production of a detailed portfolio What can I do next? Completion of the module will enable you to: Use the skills you have gained in the workplace Continue with further study and progress to the HNC/D in computing and systems development
