Are you passionate about Programming computer systems? If the answer’s ‘yes’ then this is the course for you! We want you to learn, achieve and succeed in your chosen career and this course will give you the knowledge, experience and practical skills you need to achieve your ambition. You will have the opportunity to develop your practical skills and knowledge in the following areas – C# programming, object orientated programming methods, Visual Studio.Net, PHP and project planning – and will achieve the qualification by completing assignments and practical tasks which are based on realistic workplace situations. The Level 3 qualification will enable you to pursue a career in programming and the computing industry or progress to further higher level study such as an HNC in Software Engineering. As part of your course you may have the opportunity to visit the Gadget Show and WorldSkills Show at the NEC in Birmingham, as well as attending university open days and taster sessions. You will also benefit from other activities to enhance your learning – recent events include inspirational talks from Wolverhampton MPs Paul Uppal and Emma Reynolds, an inspirational day held by IT industry giant IBM and participating in Road Safety and Alcohol Awareness Week.

About this course

To access this course you are required to have: A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above which must include maths, English and one technical subject such as science, IT, design & technology, etc OR a Level 2 ICT related qualification at Distinction or Merit level No experience in programming is necessary but would be an advantage

During this course you will study the following modules: Communication and employability skills for IT Computer systems Software design and development Procedural programming Object orientated programming Event driven programming Human computer interaction Project planning What skills will I gain? By studying this course you will gain an understanding of: Attributes of employees that are valued by employers Components of computer systems Principles of software design and development Fundamentals of procedural programming Object orientated programming Features of event driven programming Principles behind human and computer interaction How projects are managed How will I be assessed? This is an assignment-based course and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the programme either through assessment or observation. All units are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. What can I do next? The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to progress on to a HNC, HND, Foundation Degree or undergraduate degree programme in subjects such as computer science, software engineering or a Level 4 apprenticeship.
