Introduction:
This is an intermediate level course, leading to an IT Practitioner (Software Development) Level 2 award, and is designed for people with some previous experience in basic programming who require a first formal qualification.

The course will be undertaken in a formal but relaxed classroom environment in one of the Information Technology building`s computer rooms and will be delivered using a combination of lectures, short talks, demonstrations and examples.

Study Mode & Location:
This 32 week part-time course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course focusses on structured programming design and coding techniques, using the Visual Basic.NET programming environment. Throughout the course students will:

  • Design and create Graphical user interfaces (GUI`s).
  • Write programming code using structured techniques.
  • Learn object oriented programming procedures.
  • Create complete small user applications for Windows.
  • Develop testing and debugging skills to the required level.
  • Learn and appreciate the importance of code commenting.
The course is taught to industry standards, a minimum requirement for those seeking employment in programming.

Assessment:
Assessment consists of a multi-choice questionnaire and one practical assignment, although there will be continuous assessment throughout the course.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course will allow progression to other associated Level 2 courses, Level 3 Programming, a Foundation Degree in Computing or employment.

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
