The Knowledge Academy Managing Benefits® Foundation Training 3 day course covers the following topics:

Introduction

Our Managing Benefits Foundation course enables managers and practitioners from various disciplines, working in a wide variety of organisations, to explore generally applicable benefits management principles, practices and techniques.

Prior to attending this course, candidates will be emailed the following pre-course reading which has been extracted from the official APMG Managing Benefits manual:

1) Chapter 1 - Introduction
2) Chapter 2 - What is Benefits Management?
3) Chapter 3 - The Benefits Management Principles
4) Glossary

In advance of the course candidates should:
• Be familiar with the Benefits Management model (page 9) and be able to list both the 7 principles (the columns) and the 5 practices (the top part of the diagram)
• Be aware of the 9 themes that run throughout the book (they are introduced on pages 8-10)
• Understand and be able to list the key success characteristics of benefits management (page 10)
• Understand the difference between the terms output, capability, outcome and benefit (table 2.1 page 17) and be able to provide effective examples from your own experience that are different from the ones in the table
• Understand the benefits management objectives (page 21)
• Understand each of the Principles (chapter 3)

  • Apply benefits management at portfolio level, as well as at project or programme level
  • Detail the five practices in the Benefits Management Cycle and provide examples of the techniques applicable to each
  • Name the key roles and responsibilities for benefits management and the typical contents of the core documentation
  • Implement a benefits management approach and appreciate the factors that will sustain progress

  • 50 questions per paper
  • 25 marks or more required to pass (out of 50 available) - 50%
