What will I study?
the course focus is on developing an understanding of the methods used by psychologists and exploring the five main psychological approaches.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
You need to have good thinking and analytical skills. An interest in science is important. It is essential to be well organised for success in the practical work. You need to be willing to develop your communication skills.

How will I be assessed?
At AS Level there are two written examinations. A one hour exam tests your understanding of four practical investigations. A two hour exam tests your knowledge and understanding of psychology through the 15 groundbreaking studies. In the second year there is one examination on forensic psychology and health and clinical psychology. A second examination is on approaches and research methods in psychology.

What can I do afterwards?
Psychology can lead to specific careers through higher level study, such as educational psychology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, animal behaviour and counselling. It is also useful for medicine and physiotherapy. Employers look favourably on people with a background in psychology as the subject develops a wide range of transferable skills. Other career opportunities include advertising, marketing, working in the health service, teaching, the police force and law.

Are there any additional costs involved?
You will need to buy the recommended course text book. There may be additional costs for trips and conferences but these are voluntary.
