Psychology - A and AS Levels
What are the main features of this course?
There are 2 units to complete for the AS. For the first unit, Psychological Investigations students are actively involved in designing and conducting 4 Psychological studies. These studies are then used as the basis for a one hour examination on research methods. For the second unit students will examine 15 core studies within Psychology. These are either classic studies in psychology on topics such as obedience, memory, child development, or studies that raise interesting debates and issues in psychology.
In the second year two further units are studied. In the first unit students will cover two options of applied psychology from either forensic psychology, health and clinical psychology, psychology of sport and exercise or psychology of education. The final unit, Approaches and research methods in psychology, involves studying a range of perspectives, issues, methods and debates aspects of research design and implementation.

How is the course assessed?
There are 2 modules each year. An examination is taken in the January and June of each year.
Who should study this course?
You should really have at least five subjects at GCSE grade C or higher. One of these must be English Language.
Where can I go next?
Some students go on to study psychology at university. Others use it as a qualification to get them onto a different degree course. Some jobs benefit directly from a qualification in psychology (such as child psychology or personnel management). However, students do go on to an extremely wide range of careers.
