You will have to sit a diagnostic assessment to see whether this level of study is suitable for you. Mature students may not need the same academic qualifications but will still have to sit the diagnostic assessment.

Course Content:
The course includes the following topics: Models of memory, Early Social Development and Attachment Theory, Stress in Everyday Life, Social Influence (conformity and obedience), Defining and Explaining Psychological Abnormality. You will also be required to demonstrate knowledge of psychological investigation and data analysis. If you are 16-19 years of age, you will also be on a Curriculum 2000 programme, doing Key Skills in Communication, IT, enrichment sessions and weekly tutorials.
Other Information:
Assessment for this course is by 2 written exams (of 1 hour 30 minutes) in the summer term. You will also have regular assignments, tests and a mock examination. You will need to achieve good grades in both the informal assessment and the AS Level examinations to move on to the second year. You must have been well motivated and your attendance and punctuality must also have been good.
Progression:
Students who achieve a grade D or above at AS can progress to A2. Following this they may then move to higher education. You can also leave the course after the AS Level examinations and go on to another level 3 course or employment. A2 Psychology would be specifically useful in careers such as: Sports, Health, Clinical and Educational Psychology. It also compliments areas of Social Work, Teaching, Counselling, Personnel Management, Nursing, and Medicine or Specifically Health, Clinical, and Educational Psychology
