Content
You will gain an understanding of the structure of the public service industry and gain the skills and knowledge for employment. The programme consists of six units such as, uniformed public service employment, the public services, uniformed public service fitness, citizenship, adventurous activities and teamwork and community and cultural awareness.
Key Skills will also form part of your course and transferable skills which play an essential role in developing personal effectiveness for adult and working life. These are Communications; ICT and Numeracy.
Additionality
Learners will have the opportunity to gain other qualifications such as personal safety awareness, first aid and conflict management. As part of the course, learners will be required to participate in compulsory study visits and purchase a College polo shirt / t shirt. These costs will be confirmed at interview.
Assessment
Assessments are internally assessed by the course tutors and learners will be required to keep a Portfolio of Evidence of work. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions and learners are required to fully participate in both classroom based and practical activities. Practical activities include hill walking and rock climbing.
Progression
Subject to successfully completion, this course will lead on to the Btec National Diploma in Public Services or perhaps into a military career. Successful candidates on the National Diploma may progress to relevant degrees, such as law, sociology, emergency planning, politics and officer training. A huge variety of possibilities can be discussed at interview with the course tutor. Career possibilities include the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, Prison Service or Security Guards, Customs and Excise, Coast Guard, Civil Service.
