Aim
This 2 year course will help you develop your skills and personal qualities in preparation for a career in the Public Services. This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and up to 360 UCAS points. There is no exam.

Content
This qualification is made up of 18 units - studying 9 units during year 1 and 9 during year 2. The units are:

· Team leadership skills
· Citizenship
· Team development
· Understanding discipline
· Diversity
· Physical fitness
· International perspectives
· Outdoor expeditions
· Water-based activities
· Land-based activities
· Crime and society
· Emergency incidents
· Law
· Custodial care
· Psychology
· Health and fitness.
You also have the opportunity to study for an Army proficiency certificate. There will also be opportunities to participate in visits and residential activities. All units are assessed and graded either pass, merit or distinction and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful students may choose to enter a career in the Police, Fire Service, Prison Service, Armed Forces or Security industry or progress to a Foundation Degree at New College Stamford.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
