BTEC Introductory Diploma

Who is the course for?
This course provides an introduction for people who wish to pursue a career in areas such as the police, the fire service, the armed forces, the ambulance service, within the NHS and prison service.

What is the course about?
The course is both practical and classroom based. Visits and outings are also an important part of the course.

During the course, you will study 10 units including:

Practical Teamworking
Diversity
Fitness
Social Responsibility
Map work and navigation skills

You will also study a range of Basic Skills as part of the course. Basic skills enables you to demonstrate employability in the workplace and they are a compulsory part of the course. Thre will also be an opportunity to gain an outdoor pursuit qualification as part of the course.

Will I need anything else?
You will be required to buy a Public Services kit. You will also need walking boots and waterproof clothing.

How long & often do I attend?
The course is offered as a 1 year programme and requires attendance at several sessions per week.

How will I be assessed?
Successful completion of the course is achieved through a variety of assessment methods including formal tasks, observation of practical skills and some written work.

What opportunities will this lead to?
On completion of the course you can seek employment within the public sector. You may also progress to a BTEC First Diploma course ie Public Services.
