This is a two year Level 3 programme which aims to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of subject areas related to the public services. It will provide the learner with a realistic view of public services as a rewarding working environment. Programme content includes units focusing on teamwork and leadership skills; fitness development preparing you for the physical demands of work within the Public Services, specialist units which will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding of areas such as Crime and Law, as well as units which allow opportunities to carry out research into Public Services careers that are of particular interest to you. Throughout the programme learners will take part in Public Services related activities such as Police role play exercises, Armed Forces events and national Public Services competitions. There will also be visits from guest speakers who work in the Public Services, providing an insight into the work they carry out. Learners will complete a 90 credit Diploma in year 1 and subject to satisfactory progress, a 120 credit Diploma or 180 credit Extended Diploma in year 2.  As part of the programme learners will also complete the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification.  Opportunities will also be provided for Welsh language development.

About this course

Progression and Employment:
BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Public Services enable learners to develop transferable skills, providing opportunities for progress to higher level qualifications such as Degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Careers directly related to the Diploma and Extended Diploma would include Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Paramedic, member of HM Forces, HM Revenue and Customs, community service organisations and emergency service related organisations.
