Who is this course for?

This comprehensive 12 hour Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course has been designed to meet the first aid training needs of childminders and for people caring for children in any setting. It is suitable for au pairs, nannies, childminders, nursery and pre-school workers, sport and leisure staff, crËche leaders, parents and anyone responsible for the welfare of children. This course meets the requirements of Ofsted, Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework, Pre-School Learning Alliance, NVQ in childcare and education.

What qualifications or experience do I need ?

Candidates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline. There is no prior learning requirements for this programme. Candidates must have a Level 2 standard of literacy.

What will I study ?

Learners will attain knowledge and practical competencies required to deal with the range of paediatric emergency first aid situations and paediatric illness and injuries. Topics covered: " Emergency Paediatric First Aid " Role and responsibilities of paediatric first aider " Incident and casualty assessment " CPR " Unconscious casualty " Choking casualty " Anaphylaxis " Shock " External bleeding " Minor injuries " Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies " Bites and stings " Eye, ear and nose conditions " Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains " Head and spinal injuries " Chronic medical conditions or sudden illness " Body temperature " Electric shock " Burns and scalds " Poisonous substances

How will I be assessed ?

Internal continued assessment by a vocationally competent assessor and a short multiple choice question paper.

What qualifications could I achieve ?

A nationally recognised Paediatric first aid certificate qualification.

How do I join the course ?

Please complete a Barnet and Southgate College Enrolment form.

Will I need an interview ?

You will not need a formal interview.

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?

No. You will also be given a Qualsafe A5 full colour Paediatric First Aid Book, a student bandage pack, and a mouth shield.

Further Information

100% attendance is essential to fulfil the requirements of the Qualsafe qualification. If you miss a session or do not pass the exam you will be required to re-study the course and pay additional fees.
