This course is for you if you are employed in the industry related to Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.

What are the entry requirements?
The two requirements for the NVQ are to be employed in a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning job. Part of the requirement is to take an additional Technical certificate (See course TLCD Technical Certificate) which must be taken at the same time. You must be employed in the industry or be in a position to collect work based evidence. You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at Interview. You must bring a letter confirming relevant employment to enrolment.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
NVQ 2 Refrigeration & Air conditioning (Small Commercial Systems). You will also receive certificates in safe handling of refrigerants, pipework and brazing. As part of the requirement is to take an additional Technical certificate (TLCD) both fees must be added.

You can enhance your career prospects with this qualification. This could also enable entry to higher level courses.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study include, refrigeration and air conditioning, mechanical and electrical principles including practical skills relevant to the workplace. You will also study safe handling of refrigerants and pipework and brazing.

How will I be taught?
Those who are employed and need to get this NVQ 2 with a Technical Certificate, will study one day a week or two evenings a week. You will be taught through classroom study and practical work. This course also makes use of the Virtual Learning Environment where there is Internet access and various IT resources.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through online theory tests, college workshop and workplace assessment.

You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the college offers a competitive range of student services including learning support, language support and guidance.

What will it cost?
Age under 19 on 31st August of the year you start your course? Study forFREE.
