Why choose this course? The BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation and Injury Management degree offers students the opportunity to develop professional skills in preparation for working in the practice of sports healthcare, amateur and professional sport or private practice as a therapist. As well as developing an understanding of the mechanics of injuries and the treatment protocol philosophy, you will also gain knowledge of a holistic approach to care, evidenced based practice and therapeutic skills.   This course will combine the study of healthcare and physical activity, especially in the prevention, assessment and treatment of activity related injuries.   The intended content and structure of the programme to be delivered in 2016/17 is described below for illustration. While the University expects the general pattern of the programme to be as described, programmes and content are kept under constant review in order to ensure they are up to date and fit for purpose. This may mean some changes are applied and these will be communicated through the website and to those who have applied for the programme.

  • Help you to develop into a practitioner who is capable of using and contributing to the body of knowledge and research, which supports the practice of injury management and rehabilitation.
  • Give you the knowledge, skills and understanding for a career in injury management and rehabilitation through study in a range of disciplines including Manual therapy, Sports Massage, Exercise Prescription and Fitness Testing, Taping, Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, principles of Biomechanics and Dry Needling and Acupuncture for pain related conditions.
  • The course currently has links with football and rugby clubs such as Aston Villa, Wrexham and Crusaders.
  • Glyndŵr University has a clinic on campus where you will be able to gain all the experience you’ll need to become a competent, confident and professional clinician. Staff, students and the general public receive treatments at the clinic which is open five days a week. The clinic has eight treatment beds, ensuring students have the facilities they need to carry out their training.
  • Emphasis is placed on you gaining practical experience in our clinic as well as learning key business skills to enable you to set-up your own business should you wish to follow this career path.
  • The course responds to the growing demand for academic qualifications in the field of injury management and rehabilitation.

Year 1 (Level 4)

The first year is the foundation to your studies aimed at is equipping you with the skills required to be successful in level 5 and 6 and within clinical practice. Within this year you will also be given opportunities to explore subjects such as research, communication, academic writing skills, reflective practice and the therapeutic relationship.

Year 2 (Level 5)

Year 3 (Level 6)

Learning at Level 6 enhances theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It also aims tostimulate the critical evaluation and judgment formation skills of the student through consolidation of the research knowledge and skills acquired at Levels 4 and 5. The overall aim is to enable graduates to become a competent and confident in practice.
