The Programme
This is a multidimensional course which develops the students ability to think rationally about religion, ethics, human experiences and the world. Assessment will be based on examinations at the end of the AS Level year and A2 Level by the end of the second year.
The Programme Content
The AS Level course introduces Religious Studies and includes a unit on:
1. The Philosophy of Religion - including the cosmological argument - religious experience - the variety of religious experience and mystical experiences; psychology and religion - by Freud and Jung, what is the relationship between religion and mental health? Atheism and postmodernism - the rise of atheism and the death of God and there being no right or wrong religions.
2. Religion, philosophy and science - including miracles, creation and the relationship between science and religion regarding how the universe came into existence, the argument from design and quantum mechanics.
In A2- the ontological argument, the validity of religious language, the problem of evil, the mind body and soul.
Progression / Careers
Opportunity to study Religious Studies at university level and a useful entry qualification for many other disciplines. Religious Studies is a well respected qualification at A Level which is useful for a wide variety of careers.
