COURSE OUTLINE
Students genuinely enjoy Religious Studies at SFX because it is an exciting and dynamic subject which allows you to study some of the most fundamental issues in human life: Why is there evil? Can you prove the existence of God? Why be moral? Does reason have a role in examining religious beliefs? As part of this subject you will be able to learn about a wide range of philosophical and theological issues, such as the connection between science and religion, and moral debates around key issues including pollution, conservation, the value and significance of life. You will be given skills to examine these kinds of issues in a critical and analytical way, to the highest academic standards. This course is just right for students who can cope with radical and challenging ideas - regardless of whether or not they have any religious beliefs of their own. The units studied are:
AS
Unit 1: Ethics and Religion
Unit 2: Religion, Philosophy and Science
A2
In the second year students will build on their learning and achievement at AS by looking at issues more deeply, working out the interconnections:
Unit 3: Philosophy of Religion
Unit 4: Ways of making moral decisions
This is a highly respected academic level course that is welcomed by employers and universities.
