Course programme

The repo market is the lubricant that keeps the financial engine running. It serves as the link between the money and capital markets, and is vital to the well functioning of the financial markets. The turmoil in the market over the past two-years has further enhanced the importance of the repo market.

This 1 day course is designed for delegates who are new to the business of bond repurchase agreements (repos) and aims to explain how repos are priced, settled and why they are transacted by different participants in the market, including pension funds, hedge funds, market makers and derivatives users. As a way of introduction, the course includes a brief overview of the underlying bond and key money market operations.

After an explanation and clarification of bond repo terminology, the main focus is on the various applications of repos for risk management, speculation and arbitrage purposes. Emphasis is also placed on the relationship between the bond repo market and derivatives such as swaps and exchange traded bond futures.
