Course Objectives
This course concentrates on how to write effective, well-structured reports, where the writer has considered the context leading to the report, the readers’ needs and interests, and the content. It examines how to put the message across in the most effective way, the most appropriate use of language, and the layout of the text. Delegates will use samples of their own work during the course to illustrate and practise the key points of successful report writing.
Course Outline
The Context:
- examining the context
- identifying the readers. What do they need to know, and what are they looking for?
The Content - selecting and classifying your information:
- the main body
- headings
- introduction, conclusion and recommendations
- peripheral sections
Language - the components:
- words
- sentences
- paragraphs
- linking
- highlighting
Style:
- degree of formality
- consistency
- simplicity
Layout - the text on the page:
- heading style
- numbering conventions
- left and right margin
Editing and proofing the report
Duration: Offered as a half day, one day and two day programme, depending on your requirements. It is also available for One-to-One training.
