This also assists the effective management and finance of any business or organisation. Apart from the corporate and personal benefits arising from risk assessment, employers and the self employed have a legal duty to make suitable and sufficient assessments of the risks to the health and safety of employees, non-employees and the self employed. Employers need to ensure that individuals carrying out risk assessments are competent to do so. Assessors must have an understanding of the workplace and understanding of the principles and procedures required for carrying out risk assessments. The tutor led element of the programme will typically be 1 day and will assist students in becoming familiar with legal requirements, the principles of risk assessments and the methods used when conducting them in practical situations. In addition to the training programme students will be required to complete an assignment requiring some research and the preparation of a report, which may take between 3-6 hours depending on individual circumstances and ability.
