  • In all trustworthiness, this was a shocking course on the grounds that the staff was absolutely lethargic to the different issues that understudies encountered the entire path through. Tests would not work, due dates would not be right, homework would not appear on the advance page. I would be humiliated if I would be that educator - Maggie Sokolik- - or Berkeley or edX and was putting my name on this creation. I can hardly imagine how they will take cash for this.

  • The course is great for a book addict like me. It's permitting me to peruse some of my dusty spreads. I truly need to cheer the maker of this course for the vocabulary and foundation component that has added to the force of the perusing knowledge that generally would have been direct. I do concur with the audits concerning homework due dates and syntactic accuracy prerequisites, yet I attempt to remember this is a book club...the best I have been a part of in my life. Much obliged to you EdX and Berkeley University for giving me this extraordinary blessing.

What I would highlight: I am already on my way through, however this course has been a wreck. The substance would conceivably be alright, yet the course has been tormented by specialized and authoritative issues. Be that as it may, a few days after the issues started to show up, no issues have been settled, and EDX and course executives have not reached understudies back on their worries/dissensions. The message board is loaded with individuals grumbling about the low quality and lethargy of the course coordinators. From my point of view, these book clubs are a smart thought, however part of the way through, this one has been done out ineffectively.
What could be improved: Nothing bad.

Course programme

A Room with a View is a 1908 novel by English writer E.M. Forster. A Room with a View is a romance and a critique of English society at the beginning of the 20th century. As Forster’s most romantic and optimistic book, A Room with a View is considered one of the top 100 English language novels of all times. An award-winning film adaptation of this novel came out in 1985. Participants in this course will read, discuss, and write about the text and its influence. As in most book clubs, the focus will be on lively discussion. Course materials will include background information for understanding the text, as well as vocabulary and language support. Assessment will include quizzes and short writing assignments.

Additional information

Maggie Sokolik Dr. Sokolik received her Ph.D. in applied linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles. After her Ph.D., she did post-doctoral work in Paris, France, and has been a faculty member at Harvard University, MIT, Texas A&M, and Northern Arizona University. She has taught writing and technical communication at UC Berkeley since 1992, and is currently Director of College Writing Programs. She is the author of over twenty ESL and composition textbooks. She is an English Language Specialist for the U.S. Department of State, and travels frequently to speak about grammar, educational technology, writing, and instructor education, most recently to China, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. She also writes fiction, and her first novel, Too Late for Houston, will be published by Wayzgoose Press soon.
