Your Course
This course is suitable for those who have been learning Russian for about one term. The course book covers the basic language for everyday situations, and aims to develop four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, in Russian. Through the use of authentic materials we will explore a little of the culture of Russia and gain insight into the Russian lifestyle and way of thinking.
The course book is:Culhane, Terry and Bivon, Roy, Russian Language and People,BBC Worldwide 2006, Chapters 11-20
During this course students will take a short internal assessment in speaking and writing Russian at beginners level.
This course feeds into Russian Beginners Level 3 in summer 2010.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Identify yourself - your name, family, nationality, profession, address
· Communicate with other students by taking part in role-plays, enabling you to interact effectively with Russian speakers
· Request and give information in airports, shops, restaurants
· Read and speak about history, famous writers, towns
· Ask the time
· Read information, and understand instructions
· Learn more about topics such as leisure activities, work, travelling and visiting places of interest
· Learn dates, days of week, months, seasons
· Write simple sentences
Learn more grammar:
· Nouns: all cases
· Verbs: pa/present/future, perfect/imperfect, imperative, verbs of motion
· Adjectives: all cases, comparative
· Pronouns: personal, possessive, determinative
· Ordinal numbers
· Prepositions, prefixes
Your Tutor
Dr Olga Kimkhai graduated from Novosibirsk State University, Russia. She received a PhD degree in Chemistry at the Institute of Catalysis, Russian Academy of Science, Novosibirsk, Russia. She has considerable experience of teaching Russian to GCSE and A level. She has been teaching Russian to adults at Hills Road Sixth Form College for many years.

Tuition fees: £ 95
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
