Course Aims:
This is an advanced study of navigational methods and meteorology

Course Content:
The syllabus includes:
Collision regulations
Chart work
Electronic aids to navigation
Stability
Tidal heights and secondary ports
Tidal streams
Visual aids to navigation
Passage planning
Pilotage
Meteorology

Progression:
After completing the shore-based course, with more practical experience the student can progress to take the Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster practical course at a RYA approved sailing school.

Awarding Body:
RYA

Exam:
Assessment is continuous using exercises set by RYA and 3 invigilated assessments towards the end of the course. Students will be kept informed of their progress throughout the course.

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster theory certificate

Other Costs:
Students are obliged to purchase a proprietary plotting instrument and dividers (approximate cost 27.00).

Duration:
30 weeks at 2 hours per week.
