Description

The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 requires anyone who uses pesticides in the course of business or employment to have received adequate instruction in the safe, efficient and humane use of such pesticides and to be competent in the duties to be undertaken.

Identify those aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides Use the information to determine the approved uses, the potential hazards to human safety, other crops and the environment. Identify the necessary features of application equipment design to minimize operator contamination Identify, select and maintain personal protective equipment. Carry out the correct procedures for storing, handling and mixing pesticides and the disposal of empty pesticide containers and surplus pesticide. Follow the appropriate procedures and take any necessary emergency action to decontaminate persons and surrounding areas in the event of pesticide spillage Identify safe procedures for protecting the public and environment from potential hazards Follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to prevent personal contamination Carry out the procedures for cleaning and storage of equipment Complete records to meet any user obligations
