It describes and explains the various approaches to assessing the safety of increasingly complex aircraft systems whilst providing an open forum in which all issues related to safety assessment can be discussed. You may also benefit from the follow-on Applied Safety Assessment workshop, which provides practical experience of the learning gained from this course. Delegates who have chosen to do both the Course and Workshop consecutively have found the practical element extremely useful in applying their new-found knowledge in the 'real world'.

Course programme

Course structure The course is delivered over five days, and is mostly in the form of lectures and tutorials. Group work also takes place on Monday to Wednesday evenings, where delegates will carry out a safety assessment in teams. Industry speakers are also scheduled, representing GE Aerospace, Aero Engine Controls Ltd and Raytheon Systems Ltd. All delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the regulatory background behind the Safety Assessment of Aircraft Systems
  • Choose and apply the technique(s) which is most appropriate for the system under consideration
  • Understand the theory behind each technique, including the strengths and weaknesses of each one, and be aware of possible pitfalls
  • Appreciate the role of safety assessment in the overall context of aircraft certification
  • Understand the issues to be faced for the certification of new systems and aircraft.
