What's it all about?:
The foundation degree in Salon and Spa Management is a recognised university level qualification that has been designed in partnership with employers. The programme supports both hairdressers and beauty therapists, and there are optional modules that can be taken in both areas. This course has been specifically developed to allow experienced practitioners the opportunity to further their education and training at an extended level; so that you will have the opportunity to enhance their management skills.
Progression:
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree in (FdA) Salon and Spa Management may progress to stage three of BA ( Hons) Business Administration degree at the University of Plymouth.
Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:
· 60-120 UCAS tariff points - any combination
· an advanced diploma in hairdressing or beauty
· an NVQ level 3 in hairdressing of beuaty therapy plus five GCSEs including English and maths (or level 2 communication and numeracy)
· equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.
Duration: Two years

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
This is an extended two year day release programme made up of practiced based and work-based learning. Modules covered include:
- introduction to management planning
- personal and professional development
- marketing
- continuing professional development for salon and spa management
- business finance
- legal responsibilities for salon and spa organisation
- work-based learning
- customer relationship management
- managing people
- innovation and
- entrepreneurship
- research skills.
Examples of optional modules - hairdressing:
- investigating colour design or investigating cutting techniques.
Examples of optional modules - beauty therapy
- investigating massage techniques or investigating facial techniques .

Mondays (day release)
Are there any exams?:
Assessment will take the form of a range of different forms such as assignments, presentations, essays and practical assessment.
All assessments will follow the University of Plymouth's assessment regulations.
