Content / Overview:
Do you need a Science GCSE for your future career? This one year course builds on the science you have done already at school but concentrates on building the skills and knowledge of science you need in the workplace. It covers three work related areas: sport, food and forensic science and concentrates on the skills and knowledge scientists need in the workplace. Because it concentrates on developing your skills, only 40% of the exam marks are from a written exam. The rest come from three pieces of coursework: a report on three firms that use science; a report on health and safety in two organisations and a forensics project. It should suit students who prefer doing science to just reading or hearing about it, and who have the organisation and determination needed to do good coursework.

Delivery Method:
A range of methods including problem solving activities, lectures, groupwork, practicals and written essays.

Assessment:
60% portfolio work, 40% written exam.

Progression:
Degrees or careers needing a Science GCSE.
