Course Content
This course prepares students for the GCSE Single Award Co-ordinated Science, examined by the AQA examination board.

There are three sections which cover biology, chemistry and physics
  • Biology 1
    Human Biology
    Evolution and Environment
  • Chemistry 1
    Products from rocks
    Oils, earth and atmosphere
  • Physics 1
    Energy and Electricity
    Radiation and the Universe

Although there are two tiers for this exam, students are normally entered for the Foundation tier, where the maximum grade available is C.

How it is Taught
Science is taught through teacher-led activities and it takes place in the science laboratories. As with all science, there are many facts to learn as well as demonstrations and experiments to do. Scientific practical laboratory work is used to illustrate concepts and ideas. Homework and assignments encourage students to research topics and there are opportunities to use computer skills.

In addition there is a practical skills assessment and an investigative skills assignment. These are externally set, but internally assessed and account for 25% of the overall mark.
