The single general Science award (1 GCSE) is made up of a balanced programme of the sciences delivered through three related units covering Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The double award (2 GCSEs) includes additional Science involving the study of additional units across the three Sciences. You will be given the opportunity to develop a practical approach to scientific investigation and an understanding of the underlying theory. You will also find out how science is used in industry and its uses in everyday life.

About this course
You will need a general education to GCSE standard with evidence of attainment in external assessment. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential. This is in addition to the standard College entry requirements for the programme you have chosen.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
You should enjoy a practical approach to learning and be able to work independently when required, you should also have good personal organisation skills. The ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks are essential. A basic familiarity with Information Communication Technologies (ICT) would also be an advantage.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be by a series of multiple choice tests and structured papers in addition to coursework.
What can I do afterwards?
Successful completion could lead to both Advanced level GCE and Vocational courses, including the new BTEC National Award and Certificate. The course also provides a basis for further work-based training and Apprenticeships. Alternatively, the course can be used to make up an incomplete GCSE set of results for continuation to programs outside Science.
