There are four Mandatory Units:

UNIT 1: Working in the Private Security Industry

  • The purpose and main features of the private security industry
  • Legislation that is relevant to people working in the private security industry
  • Maintaining health and safety in the workplace
  • Principles of fire safety
  • Dealing with non-fire related workplace emergencies
  • Effective communication and customer care in the private security industry

UNIT 2: Roles and Responsibilities of Door Supervisor

  • Understand the behaviour appropriate for door supervisors
  • Understand elements of civil and criminal law
  • Understanding admissions policy and search procedures
  • Understand the powers of citizens arrest and related procedures
  • Understand relevant drug legislation
  • Understand incident reporting and crime scene preservation
  • Understanding licensing law and social responsibility
  • Understand safety and security issues relevant to door supervisors


UNIT 3:
Conflict Management Unit

  • Communication skills and knowledge of conflict management
  • Recognition, assessment and reduction of risk in conflict
  • Understanding how to communicate effectively in emotive situations and de-escalate conflict
  • The use of problem solving strategies
  • Good practice following a situation involving conflict


UNIT 4:
Physical Intervention Unit

  • Understanding physical interventions legal & professional implications of their use
  • Reducing the risk of harm associated with the use of physical interventions
  • Non aggressive physical skills - Protecting self and others from assault
  • Non pain related physical skills - Standing hold and escorting
