Anyone wishing to be employed as a security guard has to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). This nationally recognised qualification is the industry standard and enables you to apply for a licence to practise as a Security Guard. The Award is designed for those who wish to work in the industry and provides candidates with the basic knowledge and responsibilities of the role.

The course is designed to meet the latest criteria of the SIA and cover everything you need to know to successfully pass the end of course examinations. The qualification consists of three units: Unit 1: Working in the private security industry, covers the main characteristics of this sector including: aims and functions of the SIA and the key bodies within the industry. The required qualities of a private security operative and the career opportunities open to them are explained. Unit 2: Role and responsibilities of security guards, provides candidates with the basic knowledge and responsibilities of the role.
