Apprenticeships are a vocational training programme leading to a series of qualifications, offering the opportunity to earn while you learn using real working life experience. To become an apprentice, you must be employed in a suitable position.

What modules are covered?

Work Based Learning Element - Security QCF Level 2 certificate is a work based qualification that you will complete in your work place. An assessor will be assigned to help you select the modules which best fit with your work and will visit you regularly to help you compile a portfolio of evidence to show your competence. As the QCF is tailored to the individual, the time taken to complete your portfolio will depend on how quickly you collect the evidence. Normally a Level 2 certificate will take a minimum of 12-15 months to complete.

Modules include:
- Carrying out vehicle searches
- Effective communication
- Control of security incidents

Knowledge Element - Technical Certificate Level 2 & Functional Skills: You may need to attend College on a release programme, during which you will work towards your Technical Certificate and any Functional Skills required to complete your apprenticeship.   An individual plan will be discussed with you and your employer.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Certificate in the principles of providing Security Services

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is a combination of portfolio evidence and online and written testing, supported by your assessor, lecturers and employer

Complete an online application form and you will be contacted by the college to discuss the programme in more detail and we will give you more information on how to apply for vacancies, we may also send your application direct to the employer. The employer will shortlist the applicants and will invite the chosen candidates for interview before selecting a successful applicant for the position

What are the entry requirements?

Full time employment in a suitable position.

Employers who recruit via the college are usually looking for candidates with good GCSE grades. However, attitude, flexibility and a willingness to learn and progress through the apprenticeship programme are as important as qualifications.

What else do I need to know?

If you are already employed, you can join the apprenticeship programme with the support of your employer and base it around your current job. This could be an opportunity to show your employer you are ready for the next step in your professional development and want to enhance your role and promotion prospects.

If you are looking for a suitable position to undertake this programme, we work closely with many employers and will help you to search for a vacancy. If you are looking for work independently, ask prospective employers, careers advisors or recruitment services about apprenticeships.
