What you need to know
How will I study?

This qualification consists of several unit components: 1853-02 Technical Certificate (2 years day release at college) • Unit 001: Electrical & electronic principles of electro technology. • Unit 002: Working effectively and safely in electro technical environments • Unit 004: Intruder alarm systems • Unit 006: Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (Optional) 2882-02 NVQ – On site assessment of competence in the workplace The apprentice framework also includes Functional Skills qualifications as appropriate and sessions covering Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).
How will I be taught?

Theory tuition for the course is by a blend of class based lessons, detailed hand outs and on line resources through ‘Chichester Online’. ‘Active learning’ is encouraged throughout through class discussions, research tasks and group activities. Practical training will include installation, commissioning, testing and fault finding activities in our dedicated workshop. Work based assessment will be supported by site visits from a dedicated assessor, including production of an evidence portfolio.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods include: • On line ‘multiple choice’ exams. • A C & G intruder alarm assignment • A C & G fire alarm assignment (optional) • Internal written ‘phase tests’. • College based practical installations • Assessment in the workplace-Direct observation and portfolio of evidence.
