Our part-time BSc (Hons) Sexual Health Practice course explores research and examines evidence-based practice related to the health and social care needs of individuals and communities related to sexual health. The clinical modules have been specifically designed to enable first level NMC Registered Practitioners to prepare for professional qualifications including the Nurse Diploma from the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Health (NDFSRH) and the British Association for Sexual Health & HIV STIF Competencies. You can choose to study from a broad range of sexual health related topics which will support your career development within the speciality; these include sexually transmitted infections, contraception (subsequent and/or first issue), blood borne viruses, non-medical prescribing, safeguarding (adults and children), sex and relationship education; all modules affording for opportunities to develop the theoretical knowledge and/or clinical skills in caring for clients accessing sexual health services.

Entry Requirements 2017/18 First level Nurses, Midwives and Specialist Community Public Health Nurses with current registration on the NMC professional register.
Holds 120 credits or equivalent at Level 5 study; this should preferably be via a Diploma in Higher Education course but not for those students with no prior academic credit/qualifications; an APEL portfolio route is available in order for students to demonstrate the ability to study...

Course at a Glance

Students are required to complete a total of 120 credits at Level 6 study to be awarded the BSc (Hons) Sexual Health Practice; This includes 60 credits (c) from core modules and a further 60 credits from option modules.

The option modules chosen may be selected from a range of modules at level 6. These aim to provide choice and flexibility enabling you to meet your particular practice and professional needs. Within the BSc (Hons) Sexual Health Practice programme students will be NMC registered and may be employed within a range of NHS or alternative organisations. This programme is therefore designed to meet the educational needs of a diverse range of practitioners/clinical roles.
