Course programme

This course is separated into two units: SIA and our added value techniques

Unit 1: Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

This is where you will complete a full day at our centre learning and practising low level Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry.

The training model focuses on how to prevent situations arising and escalating but recognises there are times in some environments when staff have to act to prevent imminent harm to themselves or others.
Maybo’s physical intervention skills are based on natural movements that do not rely on strength or aggression. These non-violent skills have been legally and medically reviewed and have earned considerable credibility across different sectors.

This module based training varies from disengagement tactics to more advanced rescue techniques, escorting methods through to holding skills. Throughout the course we will examine:

The requirement to use non-physical skills as far as possible.
The law in relation to ‘reasonable force’ and ‘self defence’
The value of assessing a situation before intervening
Using physical intervention as a last resort
Possible medical implications
The potential legal implications of the techniques
Disengagement techniques
Escorting and guiding skills
Holding skills

Unit 2: Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors

This is where you will learn about different topics that are now part of the new QCF Door Supervisorqualification, and were missed out of the ‘old school’ qualification. This module is carried out by distant learning, where you learn from home prior to arrival for your course. A full colour workbook will be sent to you that will enable you to confidently carry this out.
Understand counter terrorism issues relevant to Door Supervisors
Know the role of the Door Supervisor when first aid situations occur in licensed premises
Know legislation and requirements regarding children and young people relevant to Door Supervisors
