SIGN LINGUISTIC KNOWLEDGE
During this unit, you will develop an understanding, and gain competent use of, the grammatical rules of BSL. This will include, for example, classifiers, negation, directional verbs, compounds and conditional sentences.
UNDERSTAND VARIED BSL IN A RANGE OF WORK AND SOCIAL SITUATIONS
By the end of this unit, you will be able to follow conversations and discussions delivered at normal speed on a range of topics in different work and social situations. You will be able to follow uncomplicated negotiations, discussions and instructions within your area of work. You will understand straightforward news items, interviews and documentaries.
USE VARIED BSL IN A RANGE OF WORK AND SOCIAL SITUATIONS
By the end of this unit, you will be able to contribute in a range of work related and social situations, and have a good vocabulary which can be adapted within different scenarios, Within familiar areas, you will be able to keep the conversation going fairly smoothly, and will be able to find alternative ways to explain something should you not be understood.

Assessment: a 60 minute written question paper
Understand varied BSL in a range of work and social situations
Assessment: candidates will be assessed on their understanding of a DVD conversation presented in BSL.
Use varied BSL in a range of work and social situations
Assessment: candidates will deliver a presentation, and will then have a conversation with their tutor about their presentation.
