SILVERSMITHING & JEWELLERY NCFE LEVEL 1

Description
This course is designed to introduce, demonstrate and
instruct in the design and craftsmanship of jewellery making using silver
and other mediums. Developing skills in working with precious metals to
produce personal jewellery and other decorative items such as handles,
knobs and ornamental pieces.
After completing this course you
should be able to:
· Appreciate, design and make articles of jewellery
using silver and other mediums
· Recognise a hallmark and its
information
· Repair simple items
Course Content
You
will acquire basic skills and underpinning knowledge in the craft of your
choice. The course will include projects of design and setting
asymmetrical stone in imaginative settings, designing and making catches,
clasps and hinges; gold work, and different colour gold; enamelling in
both silver and gold; casting, lost wax - cuttler fish. Other mediums eg
wood, plastic and bone.
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.
Method of Assessment
This course leads to
a Level 1 certificate on the NCFE 7880 in Creative Craft.
The
qualification consists of three mandatory units:
Unit 01 - Explore
available resources to develop basic craft skills
Unit 02 - Explore and
develop ideas creatively
Unit 03 - Create, present and review final
craft item(s)
You should note the following:
Assessment will be by
questions and answers, individual tutorials, observations and
questionnaires. You will be required to complete a Candidate Record of
Achievement and to produce a portfolio which might include evidence of
planning, design, health & safety, photographs of finished articles,
technical information and research and stimulus material.
Progression
You
may like to progress on to the NCFE Level 2 Certificate of this course.
Ask your tutor about this. This is an ideal qualification for candidates
who have an interest in their chosen craft option and wish to develop
basic craft skills that could lead to a Further Education qualification in
a craft related area.
Materials
Notebook and pen and A4 ring
binder
Your tutor will advise on tools to be purchased. Silver, gold,
other metals and other major items can be purchased directly from the
tutor.
In addition a £15 materials charge has been made to cover
the cost of incidental goods supplied by the tutor.
