To have completed the NCFE Level 1 Certificate
course or have equivalent experience.
Description
This course
is designed to introduce, demonstrate and instruct in the more advanced
design and craftsmanship of silver and other mediums, developing further
skills in working with precious metals.
After completing this
course you should be able to:
· Appreciate, design and make articles of
silverware to a more advanced level
· Recognise a hallmark and
understand its relevance
· Repair items of jewellery
Course
Content
This Level 2 course will include more advanced projects of
design and settings. Designing and making catches, clasps and hinges; gold
work and different coloured gold's, enamelling in both silver and gold,
casting, lost wax-cutler fish.
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.
Method of Assessment
This course leads to
an NCFE Level 2 Certificate on the NCFE 7880 in Creative Craft.
The
qualification consists of three mandatory units:
Unit 01 - Use
materials and resources to develop techniques
Unit 02 - Develop and
adapt ideas creatively
Unit 03 - Create, present and evaluate final
craft item(s)
You should note the following:
Assessment will be by
questions and answers, individual tutorials, observations and
questionnaires. You will be required to complete a Candidate Record of
Achievement and to produce a portfolio which might include evidence of
planning, design, health & safety, photographs of finished articles,
technical information and research and stimulus material.
Progression
This
qualification may enable you to access Further Education or employment in
a craft related area.

Notebook and pen and A4 ring
binder
Your tutor will advise on tools to be purchased. Silver, gold,
other metals and other major items can be purchased directly from the
tutor.
