To learn basic silversmithing skills or improve existing skills. The topics covered are decided before the course through discussion with the student so that the training is as relevant as possible to each individual. At least one piece of jewellery is made in each session. This is private tuition and held on a date negogiated between teacher and student. Suitable for: Beginners and those with some experience. Over 16 year olds.

Course programme

Silversmithing tuition is offered on a one-to-one basis at my workshop in Southampton. I aim to make each tuition session relevant to each person, and discuss with students what they would like to make before the day.

Examples of topics covered, dependant on what you wish to make, include:

  • Health & Safety issues
  • Workshop equipment and tools
  • Cutting and piercing silver
  • Soldering
  • Annealing
  • Filing, sanding and polishing
  • Hallmarking
