This course is designed to follow and build upon skills learned from the level one diploma as a progression route to employment in the industry or further study at a professional level. It provides an opportunity to learn and to improve the practical and theoretical skills and techniques required by employers. Units towards the qualification include specialist areas such as First and Second fixing and Maintenance work.

What you need to know
How will I study?

The course is run over two days each week and covers individual units of competence in specific areas of Carpentry & Joinery. Both practical and theoretical aspects of the craft are covered. The units are taught by way of practical training projects and formally assessed using practical and job knowledge tests. The units of competence include: • Health & Safety in the workplace • Communications with fellow workers and customers • Organise work, selection of tools and equipment • Handling and safe storage of materials • Unit knowledge tests. • Practical training tasks. • End Knowledge Exam If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main Site Carpentry course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and maths as well work experience
How will I be taught?

The course is holistically taught with both Practical and Theory Training tailored to individual need and taking place in the workshop with live projects forming the main body of Practical training and theoretical concepts also forming part of these projects. GCSE / Functional skills may require that you attend other classes in addition during your normal programme of study.
How will I be assessed?

The qualification is tested both using formally assessed practical and job knowledge tests. Criteria for testing is determined by City & Guilds. Practical skills are assessed by way of a practical skill tasks for each unit. Theory Knowledge is assessed by way of a multiple choice question paper.
