Overview

There is a legal requirement under current legislation (Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 & Health Safety (Construction, Design & Management) Regulations 2015) to manage workplace safety. The legislation requires an employer to appoint a competent person to carry out this duty. Part of the competencies are to ensure the key personnel are properly trained and a acceptable level of training is this CITB SMSTS course.

Learning outcome

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) The construction industry requires that all persons operating in a construction environment are safe and properly supervised. To be able to achieve this high standard employers are required to appoint competent persons to supervise workers, contractors and others whilst on site. To this end the role of the site manager is created and this individual must have a suitable safety qualification. Through C-Skills CITB have produced a recognised training course known as the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) courses are delivered by approved training providers who employ suitably qualified tutors. This course conforms to all of the requirements of the CITB This qualifying safety training programme is designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements in the construction industry. Each unit has been designed to focus the delegates� attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the site and the environment.

The course will be of particular interest to those with duties and responsibilities to manage all aspetcs of health and safety in construction. The expected delegates would be managers, supervisors, team leaders and current safety advisors/consultants and Designers.
