Skills for Childcare

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Child Care and Education (NQF)

The course includes the following modules:

• principles and values
• child protection and safeguarding
• equality and inclusion
• value of play and recreational activity
• team work
• physical development of children
• social and emotional development
• communication
• intellectual and language development
• supporting the development of young people
• caring for a child in a babysitting environment
• searching and applying for a job
• interview skills
• preparing for an interview and work placement
• assessing own personal learning and thinking skills
• skills for reflective learners.

To begin with, you will spend five days a weekin College. Later, you may be able to go to work in a childcare placement. There may also be opportunities to do block placement weeks.

Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:

• the qualification you are studying
• English and maths
• work experience
• other activities to develop your personal skills e.g. preparing you for employment, training or higher/further education.
