Level Two This qualification is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the childcare sector, equipping you with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector, alongside a range of transferable employability skills. It is designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately, to employment within the childcare industry.

Course programme
On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Child Care and Education (NQF)
The course includes the following modules:
- principles and values
- child protection and safeguarding
- equality and inclusion
- value of play and recreational activity
- team work
- physical development of children
- social and emotional development
- communication
- intellectual and language development
- supporting the development of young people
- caring for a child in a babysitting environment
- searching and applying for a job
- interview skills
- preparing for an interview and work placement
- assessing own personal learning and thinking skills
- skills for reflective learners.
To begin with, you will spend five days a weekin College. Later, you may be able to go to work in a childcare placement. There may also be opportunities to do block placement weeks.
Your individualised study programme will be made up of the following four areas:
- the qualification you are studying
- English and maths
- work experience
- other activities to develop your personal skills e.g. preparing you for employment, training or higher/further education.
