ESOL Courses are suitable for any student who is not a native speaker of English, and who wants to improve their use and understanding of English for work, study, social or survival purposes. Citizenship is embedded in all courses.

Course programme
Entry RequirementsNo prior knowledge or qualification is needed to gain entry onto the ESOL Programme. Entry involves an initial interview and assessment with an ESOL teacher, who will then allocate the correct class at the right level.
Course Content
The course includes four modes of assessment for Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing. During the course, students will have an opportunity to improve all four skills using everyday examples of written and spoken English. This will include different types and purposes of text and integrated grammar, spelling & punctuation.
Part-timeprogramme are 6 hours per week over 35 weeks.
Intensiveprogrammes require a commitment of 16 hours per week (5 mornings) over 11 weeks.
How will I be assessed?
All students will agree an individual learning plan with their tutor which includes targets based upon the areas for improvement identified during their initial assessment. Ongoing formative assessments for all four skills will allow students and tutor to monitor progression.
We offer final assessment/examination through City & Guilds (3692) ESOL Skills for Life qualifications.
What can I do next?
Courses start from pre-entry (Total Beginner) progressing to Entry 1 (Beginner), Entry 2 (Elementary), Entry 3 (Intermediate), Level 1 (Upper Intermediate) & Level 2 (Advanced). Students progress from level to level and undertake the City & Guilds (3692) ESOL Skills for Life examination, and/or Adult Literacy Examination (Level 1 & 2 only) which can be taken online or paper-based.
