Delegates will be able to identify the hazards associated with lifting operations. Understand the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Provision andUse of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. Be able to carry out pre-use inspection of lifting equipment. Gain a knowledge of basic slinging methods and where to obtain information and guidanceonthe approved methods of slinging. Suitable for: Persons in the construction industry with responsibility for ensuring that safe practice is employed during lifting operations on construction sites. This includes the person who who is to attaching the load to the crane and those supervising the operation.

Details:

The course is designed to provide information on the legal requirements of planning and executing lifting operations on a construction site, in a safe and controlled manner. This information is essential to any person who intends to carry out lifting operations, whether as a Slinger/Signaller or as the competent person in charge of lifting operations on a larger site.

Objectives:

  • Delegates will be able to identify the hazards associated with lifting operations
  • Understand the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Provision andUse of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Be able to carry out pre-use inspection of lifting equipment
  • Gain a knowledge of basic slinging methods and where to obtain information and guidanceonthe approved methods of slinging
  • Be capable of selecting the correct equipment and safe method of slinging for loads commonly encountered in construction
  • Be capable of planning and performing a lifting operation using safe practices as laid downinhealth and safety legislation and guidance
  • Appreciate when assistance should be sought from specialist sources, i.e. a contract lift
