Social Care and Well-being (Older Person) - BSc (Hons)

Our courses will provide you with a greater understanding of social care and well-being. You will examine the health and social care sector and the issues facing societies from both a national and global perspective. You will be able to choose between two different awards: BSc Social Care and Well-being or BSc Social Care and Well-being Older Person.

The BSc (Hons) Social Care and Well-being will enable you to advance your knowledge of social care and well-being policy developments. You will consider current and future social care and well-being needs of individuals and societies. Our course will examine a range of factors that impact on social care and well-being from a range of perspectives including sociological theories, psychological theories and legal and ethical issues.

You will look at challenges to delivering social care and well-being and how professionals can ensure that the views of service users and carers are represented. The experiences of individuals are examined and take into account national and international approaches to care delivery. Other topics studied include: culture and ethnicity, social inclusion/exclusion, stigma and anti-discriminatory practice and team working.

Alongside the theoretical side of the course, your development as an individual is promoted through the development of skills for life-long learning. These include interpersonal skills, personal development planning and other skills that will enhance your employability. Different assessment approaches will help you focus on areas of interest and develop critical analysis skills.

Our course team will facilitate insight experiences to help develop understanding of the sector and to help you apply theory to practice.

The BSc (Hons) Social Care and Well-being Older People will cover the same topics with a special emphasis on older people. You will advance your knowledge of current policy developments for older people and consider their specific social care and well-being needs. You also will ensure that the views of service users and carers are represented.

Most modules will be taught in common with other students, but you will also study a few dedicated modules, which can be found under the module section.
